We recommend using EMS. When you consider the distance your package travels from Japan to your country, EMS offers fast service and peace of mind over the long journey.

Here's a hint to help choose which method is best for you and your order:

  • If your priority is speed and safety: use EMS
  • If your priority is reasonable cost and you can bear with loss/damage: use SAL Small Packet/Printed Matter
  • If you are between: take a look at SAL Parcel
  • If your priority is very low cost and are ready to wait a long time: use Surface Parcel

Check our shipping rates, which are those of Japan Post.

SAL Small Packet & SAL Printed Matter

SAL (Surface Air Lift) Small Packet / Printed Matter is a very economic shipping method. Recommended for orders of little value and not containing rare products.

It's a non-priority shipment, the same used for traditional postal mail: packages usually take 2 - 3 weeks to arrive, but some packages have arrived after more than 3 months!

Packages are not insured and not registered, so in the rare case (about 1 per 1000) of a lost package, beNippon and Japan Post cannot be held responsible.

Note: If you cannot bear with a lost or damaged package, then choose EMS instead of SAL.

  • Economic: very cheap tariff
  • Slow: arrives between 2 weeks and 3 months
  • Not insured and not tracked: no recourse possible in case of lost or damage
SAL Economy size

Restrictions:

  • Size: The sum of three sides (length (A), width (C) and height (B)) must be less than 90cm
  • Weight:
    • SAL Printed Matter: Up to 5Kg
    • SAL Small Packet: Up to 2Kg

SAL Parcel

SAL (Surface Air Lift) Parcel shipping may, in some cases, be more interesting than EMS, because parcel is also tracked and insured, but such parcels seems to be less often taxed by some countries customs.

  • Delay: arrives in 2 to 3 weeks
  • Safe: online tracking available
  • Insured: 11,160 yen for parcels up to 5Kg, 15,170 yen up to 10Kg, 19,190 yen up to 15Kg, etc.
SAL Parcel size

Restrictions:

  • Size: the longest side (A) must be less than 1.5m (1.05m for some countries like the USA), and the sum of this length (A) and the circumference (B) must be less than 3m (2m for some countries like USA)
  • Weight: Up to 30Kg (20Kg for some countries like Spain)

Surface Parcel

Surface Parcel shipping method is very very slow: it is sent by boat all the way to the destination. Usual delay of delivery is not to be expected before 2 or 3 months. If you are not in a hurry, it could be a good choice for your big orders of heavy products (lot of books, kotatsu, etc.) because the tariff is very cheap.

Note that tracking, although available, is not updated while parcel is on board.

  • Economic: really cheap tariff
  • Slow: arrives in 2 or 3 months
  • Insured: 11,160 yen for parcels up to 5Kg, 15,170 yen up to 10Kg, 19,190 yen up to 15Kg, etc.

product amount + shipping costs = total used for tax computations

  • In Belgium: 21%
  • In Switzerland: 7.6%
